America is currently facing a significant health crisis that affects both adults and children. This crisis is largely due to poor nutrition, sedentary lifestyles, and unhealthy habits. Fortunately, there is a solution that is low-cost and readily available in our community: our local parks and recreation facilities, along with the Webb City Farmers Market. There is growing scientific evidence that recreational activities and healthy lifestyles contribute to building healthier communities. Major health organizations in the country, such as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, emphasize that exercise and a proper diet are critical to addressing our nation's health epidemic. By implementing strategies aimed at improving access to healthy food, increasing opportunities for physical activity, reducing tobacco use, and more, the Webb City Parks & Recreation Department and the Webb City Farmers Market are collaborating to create a healthier and more vibrant community. The Webb City Parks & Recreation Department is excited to partner with the Southwest Missouri Electric Railroad Association to provide nostalgic trolley rides around King Jack Park. Our restored trolley, Old No. 60, dates back to the early 1920s and is mounted on a 1.1-mile track, offering a charming experience reminiscent of the mining and post-mining days of Webb City for riders of all ages. The Southwest Missouri Electric Railway was one of the nation's first mass transit systems, beginning operations in 1889 as a mule-powered service that transitioned to electric power in 1903. The railway expanded to connect Webb City with the towns of Cartersville, Carthage, Galena, Joplin, Baxter Springs, Picher, Oklahoma, and later, Pittsburg, Kansas, forming a 94-mile system of tracks. In addition to passenger services, the railroad also transported freight until it was discontinued in 1939. In 2011, the Webb City Park Board acquired a sister trolley to enhance the park system. This trolley operates on rubber wheels and was intended to transport visitors to special events throughout the four-state area. The Webb City Parks & Recreation maintenance crew meticulously disassembled this used trolley down to its frame and rebuilt it into a showcase piece for our community. The trolley will also be available for weddings, birthday parties, and other special events throughout the year. More information on the trolley can be found on the Facilities page.

Webb City Annual Easter Egg Hunt The Webb City Park & Recreation Department hosts an annual Easter Egg Hunt on the Saturday before Easter weekend. If bad weather leads to a postponement, we will attempt to hold the event the following weekend, on Easter Saturday.
The hunt takes place in the back of King Jack Park, located between the soccer and baseball fields. Over 10,000 eggs are hidden in four designated areas for children to collect. We have three separate age brackets and a special area for children with special needs. Everyone is welcome to attend!
The event is free, but please remember to bring your own large egg basket—you'll need it!
